Job Summary
The Unit Manager is responsible for the daily management and coordination of the nursery unit to ensure all the company goals & objectives are met.
General Responsibilities
-Supervise, motivate and lead a team of technicians to ensure production & marketing goals are met
-Provide required administrative duties, including work schedules, marketing documentation, payroll timesheets, etc.
-Provide training, mentoring, delegation of work and guidance to all staff to ensure SOPs are followed
-Comply with company policies regarding the hiring, discipline and termination of employees
-Plan all of the routines for barn staff as it relates to the cycle of pig movement through the unit
-Ensure Animal Well Being Code of Conduct is maintained and pigs are provided sufficient nutrition and water and animal handling practices are acceptable
-Implement all Biosecurity and Veterinary Protocols to ensure the health of unit is maintained
-Monitor pig condition and work with veterinarians to implement plan of action
-Ensure proper cleanliness and disinfecting of rooms prior to moving pigs into the unit
-Coordinate the marketing of animals with head office
-Monitor and maintain proper ventilation and temperature controls for the unit
-Coordinate maintenance in and outside of barn
-Understand OH&S regulations associated with the Unit and ensure compliance with the use of personal protective equipment, safe work procedures and company policies
-Ensure incidents at unit are documented and reported
-Maintain proper inventory of barn supplies - both veterinary and general - and submitting -Purchase Orders to head office in timely fashion
-Respond and acknowledge alarms relating to barn & be available for emergency duties
Education/Experience Required
-Certificate/Diploma in Animal Science or Veterinary Technology preferred
-2 years experience in a hog barn required; training provided
