We are beekeeping operation based in in Saskatoon and Yellow Point, Vancouver Island. We are focused on honey production, pollination, queen production and nucleus hive creation.
Our company is looking for laborers willing to learn the skills required to become a apiary technician.
We need individuals who are keen to learn, be challenged, work hard, and grow with our business. Beekeeping duties include but are not limited to:
- Handling beehives
- Honey harvesting and extraction
- Queen bee management
- Management of colonies for disease/pests and overall health
- Driving pick ups and possibly 5 ton trucks
The majority of the work involved will relate to beekeeping, however we are looking for workers who can contribute further to the position and have skills related to mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, agriculture and other trades.
There is no prior beekeeping experience required, as all training will be provided on the job. The candidate must be physically fit and able to lift over 50 pounds frequently and work in hot weather/conditions. The duties of the position will evolve over the course of the season and can be tailored to fit the skills and interests of the candidate. The candidate must be willing to be stung by bees regularly and ensure that they are not allergic to bee stings prior to accepting the position. All candidates must have a valid drivers license and access to transportation to get to our farm location (10 km north of Saskatoon city center), which is not accessible by public transit.
Note that the position guarantees 40 hours/week however there will be longer work hours during peak harvesting periods.
