Working as part of a team, this person is responsible for planning, delivering and reporting on the TD Summer Reading Program. The team will provide literacy-based activities for children ages 5 11 in a fun and safe environment. Due to COVID-19, this program will start as an online program in July and could become an in-person program as restrictions are lifted in August. This person will also learn aspects of working in the library and will gain valuable problem-solving and supervisory skills. This person will learn how to circulate items, create book displays, manage budgets, write grants, and file.
Details of Functions:
Creating and presenting online videos on Facebook and YouTube. This includes writing scripts as well as recording, editing, and uploading videos.
Creating weekly programming packages for participants.
Promoting the program and registering participants.
Planning and executing activities for the Summer Reading Program, with an emphasis on literacy.
Selecting and ordering appropriate books and resources.
Planning and directing crafts, and planning and preparing healthy snacks.
Planning and directing outdoor and physical activities.
Supervising the children to ensure safe delivery of the program.
Shopping for supplies, keeping track of expenses and submitting regular reports.
Other duties as assigned by the Circulation Supervisor or Library Administrator.
Mandatory Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 education; must be enrolled in a post-secondary school in the fall.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience in working with children.
Excellent computer skills, proficiency in social media.
Good oral and written communication skills. Must be comfortable on camera.
Ability to work with adults and children is essential.
Must be able to work independently and in collaborations with a team.
