Description

Peer Support Specialists are part of a team providing services in a community based setting working with adults with mental health diagnoses & substance abuse disorders.  They guide, support & assist residents with their recovery goals. Duties & responsibilities may include providing transit training, assisting residents to develop self-help strategies, providing assistance in the areas of grocery shopping & apartment maintenance, as well as organizing & conducting life skills & social leisure groups.  Peer support specialists act as a role model & must be able to provide appropriate responses to residents disclosing thoughts of self harm or suicide, hallucinations, delusions or other symptoms. Shift work is required.
