Our well-established firm employs three lawyers and four support staff and has operated since 2001. We practice throughout west-central Saskatchewan in many legal areas.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor files and regularly send billings to clients. Manage accounts payable.
- Completion of some basic secretarial tasks.
- May train on real estate conveyancing / estate paralegal work / and other legal areas.
- Aid clients with inquiries related to accounts, payouts, or other financial transactions.
- Complete month-end reports of firm billings and financial activity.
- Closely monitor trust and other accounts as directed by lawyers.
- Manage payroll for staff, payout of travel claims for lawyers, and bills charged to the firm.
- Complete required government financial returns, including GST / PST.
- Complete annual Law Society of Saskatchewan trust account reporting, manage audits with external accounting firms, and complete other financial reporting requirements for the firm under the direction of the lawyers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills required:
- Experience handling payroll.
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and other office equipment.
- Knowledge of ESILaw (legal billing software) or other similar law firm software is an asset, but not essential as we can provide training.
- A tactful, friendly, and empathetic approach to others.
- Professional and ethical conduct in the workplace.
- Ability to perform under tight deadlines without supervision.
- An absolute commitment to client confidentiality and privacy.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, schedule, and effectively use time.
Qualifications:
- 3 years experience as Bookkeeper in legal field or similar experience.
- Financial post-secondary education is an asset.
- Experience in real estate law, estates, corporate returns, or banking is an asset.
