Description

Livestock Services of Saskatchewan is a non-profit organization that facilitates the delivery of livestock brand inspection services, manages the brand registry and administers the licensing of livestock dealers in Saskatchewan.  LSS is based out of its headquarters in Regina and has a province-wide network of Inspectors operating from a variety of field locations.

LSS requires a part-time, seasonal Livestock Inspector for the South East District, working out of Alameda and area.  The successful candidate must be available to perform part-time, seasonal work as required year round.  Our work aligns with the annual trade flow of the livestock industry, with the busiest season being the September to December fall run.

This position will carry out inspection and investigative duties pertaining to the identification and ownership of livestock at auction markets, feedlots, assembly-yards, processing plants and on farms. It will ensure compliance to Provincial regulations and provide program information and interpretation of legislation to livestock producers, dealers and the general public.

You Bring to the Role....
- In-depth knowledge of livestock breeds, livestock behavior and safe livestock handling
- A strong understanding of livestock operations (particularly farm/ranch and feedlot), auction markets and processing plants - minimum of 3-5 years working knowledge
- Ability to identify and prevent instances of inhumane treatment of livestock
- General computer application skills
- Ability to work independently under mentally and physically demanding conditions
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Strong problem analysis and solving skills
- Solid organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
