Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Social Programs, or her designate, the Casual Residential Caseworker will assist in case management, service delivery, supervision of youth, and household operations of the residential program.
Duties:
Complete domestic duties
notify supervisor of maintenance issues
Complete necessary yard work
Ensure youth understand home guidelines and responsibilities (Youth Centered Model and the Residential Services Manual)
Promote positive independent problem solving and decision making skills
Intensive case management
Provide stabilization crisis support
Provide incidental problem solving and emotional support to youth
Provide information and life skills support to youth related to personal, family, housing, healing, safety, work, school, income, etc.
Provide emergency, incidental behavior management (non-violent crisis intervention)
Role model positive behavior and assist youth to practice self-help and non-violent problem solving skills daily
Ability to provide accurate written documentation
Qualifications:
Some related post secondary education and some work experience in a residential setting along with intensive case management
Compliance with the designated Risk Management policies of the National John Howard Society
First Aid, CPR, Suicide Intervention training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safety training
A valid drivers license
Clean Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check
Knowledge:
An understanding and commitment to the philosophy, goals, and objectives of John Howard Society.
Familiarity with disadvantaged persons
Working knowledge and experience working in a residential facility
