Under the supervision of the Director of Social Programs, or his/her designate, the Supported Independent Living Program (SILP) Caseworker will assist in case management, the service delivery of the Supported Independent Living Program.
Duties:
Assist in providing life skills development, including:
o Promote positive independent problem solving and decision making skills
Assist in case management and support for clients in the program, including:
o Intensive case management
o Provide stabilization crisis support
o Provide incidental problem solving and emotional support to clients
o Provide emergency, incidental behavior management (non-violent crisis intervention)
o Ability to provide effective and accurate written documentation (ex: case management notes, incident reports, etc.)
o Maintain confidentiality
Qualifications:
Combination of:
o University Bachelors degree in the Human Services sector
o 1-2 years experience doing outreach work with high risk clients
Experience in intensive case management
Compliance with the designated Risk Management policies of the National John Howard Society
First Aid and CPR
Suicide Intervention training
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
Food Safety training
A valid drivers license
Clean Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check
Knowledge:
An understanding and commitment to the mission, vision, and core values of the John Howard Society.
Familiarity with the problems and characteristics of disadvantaged persons
Experience and familiarity working with the LGBTQ community
Skills:
Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
Exceptional writing and case management skills
Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships with clients, other staff, clients, businesses, government representative, etc.
Demonstrated skills in providing supervision to clients
