WHAT YOU'LL DO:
As a shelter worker youll be responsible for the provision of direct services and support to residents of the shelter with everything they need to get re-established; including personalized safety plans, assistance finding new living accommodations, applying for financial support, referrals for additional services, assistance with job search, and transportation to and from the shelter.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Determine eligibility of clients
- Provide support and non-judgemental listening in the areas of problem solving, decision making, and mediation by telephone and in person to residents, former residents, and potential residents.
- Assessment and case planning
- Providing advocacy and referral services as required
- Coordination of resident appointments and transportation needs
- Ensuring the security and protection of families in the centre
- Conducting group work in the shelter
- Maintaining records, reports, and forms
- Competent coverage of the crisis line and all procedures associated with it
- Day to day maintenance of the shelter
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum grade 12 education
- Post-secondary education, preferably in a human services field considered an asset
- Cree or Dene language considered an asset
- Valid drivers license
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to cope with high-stress situations
- Able to work independently
COMPENSATION:
$19.61 - 22.52/hour
