Job Description: Within the context of a client-centered care model, in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and the vision, mission and values of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the Senior Recreation Therapist works as a member of the collaborative health care team and plays a dual role in providing leadership to Staff Recreation Therapists/Coordinators and a clinical role in providing Recreation Therapy services with specific clients and/or client groups. Patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by all SHA staff and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
The Senior Recreation Therapist utilizes a strengths approach to practice with a focus on enhancing life-long leisure skills and attitudes, eliminating barriers to leisure and optimizing leisure participation for clients with chronic illness or disabling conditions. The clinical role and function of a Senior Recreation Therapist includes assessment, intervention planning, utilization of evidence informed interventions, evaluation and documentation of Recreation Therapy services. Services are provided to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient, long term care or community settings, relating to the client's leisure needs, interests and abilities and overall treatment plan.
The Senior Recreation Therapist is responsible for overseeing the delivery of the overall Recreation Therapy service for a program or team. They provide support, direction and workload delegation to Staff Recreation Therapists, Recreation Coordinators or Therapy Assistants where applicable.
