Description

The Assistant Librarian, employed by the local library board, assists with a wide variety of public library services to the community under the direction of the Branch Librarian. They are thoroughly knowledgeable of library policies and procedures plus have a comprehensive understanding of the region. They work with minimal supervision. Work methods are governed by established procedures but the employee must be able to exercise independent judgment, initiative and work cooperatively with others. Accuracy is essential. The Assistant Librarian must be precise in their duties and work effectively with the board and public.

Duties Include:
1. Assist in implementing all regional and local policies and procedures.
2. Assist with the efficient operation of the library including manual and automated circulation, reference and interlibrary loan services, overdue procedures, and mail.
3. Assist in the maintenance of manual and automated records.
4. Assist with library programs and special events plus actively promote the library through regular contact with: community groups, schools and local councils.

Candidate should have:
- The ability to work well with both children and adults
- Excellent computer, electronic device and Internet skills.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work cooperatively, be diplomatic and flexible.

Library experience preferred but will train.

An acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check will be required.
