Job Description: The Environmental Health Protection Coordinator (EHPC) is responsible for reviewing, assessing and reporting potential human health impacts related to projects, development, decommissioning and other developments in the three northern health authorities covered by Population Health Unit. The EHPC works to identify and address health hazards of concern within the three northern Health Authorities, in collaboration with the Medical Health Officer, the Environmental Health Program, Ministries of Health and Environment, other agencies and government departments, and the communities in northern Saskatchewan. The EHPC conducts research, consultation, education, liaison, and monitoring of development projects. This position receives direction from the Medical Health Officer and supervision from the Public Health Inspector Supervisor.
Education and Qualifications:
- Degree in Environmental Health
- Certificate in Public Health Inspection, Canada, as issued by the Board of Certification of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors.
Experience
Minimum 2 years in public health inspection with the inclusion of project management, environmental health impact assessment, human health risk analysis, risk assessment, risk communication and working within a cross cultural context and understanding of northern health issues.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong technical and analytical skills, including the use of logical and quantitative reasoning
Highly developed communication skills to effectively convey information both orally and via written technical reports with a wide range of professional and community audiences
Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
