Description

The Saskatoon Downtown Youth Centre Inc.  EGADZ is an inter-agency, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services for "hard to serve" youth in Saskatoon with the mission to encourage and support them to make choices that improve their quality of life.
The Peer Model My Homes provide homes for 15 - 20 year old at risk youth. The homes are situated in residential neighborhoods in Saskatoon. The homes are supervised and supported by additional staff of EGADZ with full time Youth Workers who support the Mentors and girls/young women who live in the homes.

Position: House Mom (Live In Mentor).

This rewarding position requires a responsible person who leads a healthy lifestyle and can be role model for our youth. Experience for this role may come from a combination of professional, personal, and education experience.

The role of the Mentor is to act as support and assist the girls/young women with daily life issues as they arise. The Mentor provides guidance and encourages the youth to make healthy choices in life and offers empathy and compassion when youth are struggling. The Mentor must be non-judgmental and able to provide emotional support to youth when required. The Mentor is someone who is easily approachable and accessible for the youth.

This position is ideal for candidates who are either furthering their education or maintaining other employment. This is a live-in paid position.

Qualifications:
Relevant experience, life experience or a combination of both.
Demonstrate and practice a healthy lifestyle.
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with youth, staff and partnering agencies.
Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively in an oral and written form.
Aware of human services in and around Saskatoon.
Familiar with addictions issues.
Working knowledge of computers.
Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and issues.
Recent Criminal Record Check required.
