The GS of Refractories and Raw Materials works closely with the Melt Shop leadership team to ensure the operation runs safely, efficiently and effectively. Is a champion for safety and creates an environment that recognizes the safety as a key initiative, controlling cost while at the same time responding to customer requirements and ensuring quality and delivery expectations are met.

Responsibilities
* Continuously improve the effectiveness of the refractory area by monitoring the processes and their effect on productivity
* Communicate very clear expectations
* Participate effectively in leadership meetings and facilitate the setting of clear goals and responsibilities
* Work with documented key indicators (i.e., process control parameters, etc.) to improve product quality and eliminate waste
* Investigate key process failures, identify their root cause and minimize future effects
* Ensure compliance with department, plant and corporate policies
* Become thoroughly knowledgeable in all Steelmaking related processes
* Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring refractory and raw material programs that ensures consistent levels of quality and productivity
* Monitor, manage and improve department conditions and safety program.
* Thoroughly understand refractory applications and their effect on safety, quality, productivity and cost
* Assist in new product development and quality related requirements
* Ensure refractory and raw materials meet quality standards
