Description

Position Overview:  
The successful candidate will join SAMAs Melfort Region in this full-time, summer term Assessment Assistant position.  Reporting to the Regional Manager, the incumbents primary duties will include:
    Assisting senior Agrologists in collecting physical data used in the valuation of residential and commercial properties and agricultural land.  
    Utilizing aerial photography to verify changes in arable, non-arable and out-of-production acres, salinity and flooding, and land-use for the Melfort Region.  

The term is expected to run from May 3 to August 20, 2021.  The successful candidate can expect to be working in an office environment 75% of the time with the remaining 25% in the field.  

Responsibilities:
    Provide support and assistance to regional assessors in conducting field inspections including the collection and organization of physical data;
    Accurately distinguish arable, non-arable, and out-of-production acres for assigned municipalities;
    Update current acre inventories in the Agency's computer system as required; and
    Other duties related to assessment as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge of soil science
    Good communication and public relations skills
    Good interpersonal skills
    Strong attention to detail
    Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft software such as Word, Excel and Outlook
    Ability to work independently or with limited supervision
    Good problem-solving and time management skills

Required Professional Designations/Certification:
    Currently enrolled in the College of Agriculture & Bioresources at the University of Saskatchewan (or other recognised university) with courses continuing in Fall 2021.
    A valid class 5 drivers license and a clean driver's abstract is required.

Employment with the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal record check.
