Job Description: The Community Mental Health Nurse (CMHN), Nurse B position is an essential element in a comprehensive Mental Health Service. The CMHN has extensive knowledge of the evidence based principles and practices of Community Health Nursing. A large portion of the CMHN's work is based outside of the clinic working independently. Each skilled CMHN is expected to monitor and administer medication, assess clinical status, provide case management, develop behavioral treatment programs, provide counselling and education and provide various forms of psychotherapy, including individual, family and group therapy. A CMHN must have good organizational skills and as well provide health promotion, education and early intervention/prevention to the communities they work in. This position works in an integrated manner with other mental health and addiction programs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing
Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA) or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS)
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Experience
Minimum 5 years experience as an RPN/RN in an acute psychiatric inpatient unit or community psychiatry. Proven working knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of Community Mental Health Nursing and Rehabilitation program standards.
