As an employee in these temporary summer student positions, you will provide technical and/or research support for a variety of assignments within the Hydrometric program, assisting with the spring and summer operations in maintaining the hydrometric network. Typical duties and responsibilities may include:
Accompanying hydrometric technicians on field trips for data collection; and
Station maintenance and performing office duties in support of the real time hydrometric data acquisition and publication.
Undertaking and assisting in the hydrometric surveys in assistance to Hydrometric technicians. This primarily involves being the second person on a field crew to conduct leveling, assisting with discharge measurements and maintaining hydrometric stations (cutting grass, painting and general maintenance). The student would also assist in keeping data and information up to date, to facilitate real time date computations.
Preference will be given to college or university students enrolled in an Engineering or Geoscience Degree program or in an Engineering Technology Diploma program. Applicants require knowledge of MS Office Suite, skill in written and verbal communications, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. A high degree of independence and attention to detail is also needed. Work can require considerable travel, an irregular work schedule, and, on occasion, extended absences from headquarters. Travel, sustenance, and accommodations will be provided when required to work away from headquarters.
