Description

Brief description of position and responsibilities:
Saskatchewan Polytechnic is seeking a Laboratory Technologist, who will be responsible to:
1. Provide support and assistance for staff and students by ensuring labs are prepared for staff and ready for quality student learning
2. Prepare all aspects of lab set up, specimen acquisition and preparation and lab take down.
3. Perform installation, setup, as well as calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and arranging for repair of lab equipment.
4. Recommend the purchase of capital, materials, and supplies, maintain inventories and required documentation, keep informed of changes in laboratory practices, material and equipment.
5. Recognize workplace hazards, participate in establishing safe work practices in the laboratory and oversee all individuals in the laboratory to ensure compliance.
6. Oversee students and future applicants in classroom, clinical, labs, tours, etc.
7. May involve travel.

Qualifications for the position:
1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
2. Current registration with C.S.M.L.S.
3. Licensed to practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Saskatchewan.
4. Two years recent/relevant clinical experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
5. Experience in the use and maintenance of instruments such as hematology and chemistry analyzers.
6. Knowledge of laboratory safety, emergency response, dangerous goods and biohazard waste disposal.
7. Knowledge of providers of equipment and supplies.
8. Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, faculty and supervisors
7. Effective communication (written and oral) skills.
8. Effective interpersonal skills.
9. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
