The LPN provides competent, holistic care to clients of all ages attending treatment at Thorpe. This position supports clients recovery by maintaining the medical health of each client through the assessment, consultation, and administration of controlled, prescribed, and OTC medications.
Responsibilities and Duties
Medication:
Dispenses medication at scheduled times throughout the day and reconciles any discrepancies.
Obtains medication history on admission and reconciles medications.
Follows standing orders as per facility protocol.
Reports and tracks medication issues.
Medication ordering.
Ensuring client comes with all RXs needed; if not it is the LPNs job to navigate how to obtain these RXs.
Client Care
Monitors vital signs.
Assist the General Nurse Practitioner with zoom calls.
Provides education to clients regarding health concerns and other medical related issues.
Books doctor appointments when appropriate for clients; transfers paperwork to the appropriate doctor, and ensures follow-up appointments have been
Provides referrals as necessary.
Works closely with Nurse Manager regarding concerns addressed by the client.
Documents client case notes, medications, special requirements and care for the client.
Attends shift change meetings and reports on client progress.
Other Duties
Conducts pre-employment drug testing for potential staff members.
Provides active listening and validation to clients.
Regularly checks emergency equipment including the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device and pads.
All other related duties as required by the Nurse Manager or Clinical Director.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Practical Nurse Diploma from a recognized post-secondary practical nurse program
Maintain a permanent, valid practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta in good standing.
