CLSI is now accepting applications for a Support Scientist (Two-Year Term) to work with the SXRMB Beamline. Reporting to the Beamline Responsible, Scientist, the Support Scientist supports the Beamline Responsible in the effective operation and ongoing development of a beamline or other major scientific facility. This position has a term end-date of December 31, 2022.
Responsibilities
- Provides user support to general users, beamteam members, fee-for-service clients and CLS staff. Assists with the following functions: beamline and endstation setup, sample preparation and trains users on how to operate beamline, user support beyond normal working hours in accordance with established CLS procedures
- Supervise and support users to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in an effective manner
- Analyzes and solves beamline or technical problems by developing recommendations.
- Undertakes preventative maintenance following standard procedures or under the guidance of the supervisor.
- Prepares beamline documentation ensuring designs conform to CLS standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices, subject to the review and approval of the supervisor.
- Helps maintain software at beamlines, and to define software specifications. In certain cases, may be involved in the programming and troubleshooting of new software.
- Maintains a detailed lab book and oversees tracking and maintenance of beamline log books.
- Stocks the beamline and labs, tracks inventory and ensures beamline is clean and organized.
Qualifications:
- A relevant undergraduate degree or Masters degree.
- A minimum of 2 years of related experience in a synchrotron or scientific laboratory with an undergraduate degree.
