Description

Parkland College is seeking an Instructor for Essential Skills- Housing Maintenance Program at Key First Nation.  This program will take place from March 1, 2021 - April 30, 2021.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Under the supervision of the Coordinator, this position is primarily responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering and facilitating the classroom and practical carpentry component of the Essential Skills program. The program goal is to help build workforce skills within participants.  

The housing maintenance program is designed to give students enough information and experience to successfully transition into entry level employment within the trade, or pursue further carpentry education. The program starts with a heavy focus on foundational employability and essential skills, with a trades math enhancement as well.  Students then complete a week of safety training prior to moving into hands-on project work.  The hands-on portion will start with tool use, safety and various small exercises.  Following the small exercises, the students move into community projects which becomes the primary project for the remainder of the learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant two-year post-secondary diploma or equivalent or a journeyperson trade certificate.  Journeyperson Carpentry status is preferred.

The minimum amount of practical, related experience required to perform the duties of this position is five years' of recent and relevant carpentry experience.

Demonstrated experience handling sensitive issues.

Demonstrated experience working in a cross-cultural environment.
