The Financial Controller completes all functions related to accounts receivable, accounts payable and provides support and back-up to payroll. This position is responsible for day-to-day financial transactions including preparing bank deposits. This position is also responsible for the creation of financial statements and report preparation, filing and maintaining spreadsheets related to construction projects, maintenance of accounting records including month-end reconciliation and the implementation of controls to mitigate risk. This position is also responsible for real-time job costing.
The controller ensures that the company accounting procedures and results conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
Essential Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years in a Finance role; related and progressively responsible professional accounting experience including full-cycle accounting;
Accounting Designation (CGA, CMA or CA);
Well versed in federal and provincial corporate and consumer tax matters
Strong business acumen demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills
Comfortable with the use of technology to improve processes
Strong Excel skills
Respect for confidentiality
Experience with owner-managed companies
Familiarity with Construction industry practices and industry accounting software and packages
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)
- Society of Certified Management Accountants (CMA) membership
- Provincial Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA) membership
- Certified General Accountants (CGA) Association Accreditation
