Description

DUTIES:
Assess settlement and integration needs of each newcomer client, provide referrals to community resources, and assist with coordination of settlement and integration services
Assist newcomers in developing their Settlement Plans
Provide crisis management support to newcomers with tact, understanding and sincere interest in meeting newcomer needs
Provide cultural education to non-settlement service providers
Conduct one on one or group orientation sessions to newcomers on topics such as housing, education, transportation, employment and child care
Arrange tours of the community resources
Build and maintain relationships with referral sources and community agencies
Maintain records through use of client database
Prepare reports for submission to ED
Requires travelling in the east central SK region for satellite office sessions and establish community connections
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Settlement services or other human service field
Preference will be given to individuals with post-secondary education that includes counseling modalities
Minimum 2 years experience in assisting newcomers with settlement issues
Extensive knowledge of the Canadian and Saskatchewan immigration system
Current knowledge of legislation, policies and practices affecting newcomers
Knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrants
Strong knowledge of community resources
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written including workshop facilitation, presentation and public speaking skills
Ability to speak, read and write other language/s will be beneficial
Ability to multi-task while maintaining high degree of accuracy in data collection
Strong interpersonal skills including tact, understanding and sincere interest in meeting newcomer needs
Proficient computer skills
Valid Saskatchewan Drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
