DESCRIPTION
This position will report to the WPC Wellness Program Coordinator and will be responsible for developing culturally appropriate community-based approaches to alcohol and substance abuse for the community, including prevention, intervention and treatment and supports.
DUTIES
Provide individual, family, and group counseling.
Screening, assessment, and care planning.
Referral to addiction treatment and other programs that are traditionally based.
Aftercare and follow-up.
Develop harm reduction programs, and education programs for school and community.
Provide members with information about sobriety, drug free and healthy lifestyles.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in abstinence-based addiction treatment and knowledge of the 12-step recovery model. (Persons working towards the above certifications (students) are encouraged to apply.)
Ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with First Nations, people of different ages and cultures, in potentially volatile and emotionally charged situations.
Advanced assessment, counseling skills, leadership skills.
Addictions Counselling Diploma or equivalent program acceptable to the employer.
Minimum of one-year experience in addictions/mental health at the community or inpatient level would be desirable.
The ability to speak/understand the language(s) of the community is an asset.
Current Criminal Record Clearance, Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)
