This positions main function is to program, set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts and fit assemble machined parts into complete units applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques.
-Formal training as a machinist obtained through a post-secondary training institution
-A minimum of five (5) years of work experience as a CNC Machinist
-Extensive knowledge of tool geometrics, carbide grades and tool coatings and understand the different grades of raw material
-Knowledge of machinists materials, methods, and equipment involved in the machining and / or fabrication of projects
-Must be able to read and understand complex drawings and isometric views
-Must have experience with Reinshaw probing
-Must have experience in creating setup sheets and effective part setups for complex multistep milling and turning applications and experience with multiple turning centers.
-Having experience or training in the use of Solidworks, Bobcad and Mastercam software would be viewed as an asset.
-Able to consistently and efficiently measure part accurately to meet drawing tolerances
-Able to perform safely duties with a minimum amount of supervision
-Mathematical and analytical skills are required
-Read and understand complex drawings and isometric views to select the necessary tools, tool geometries operations and setups to complete machining operations of 3 Axis, 4-Axis and some 5-Axis milling operations
-Select the right tool geometrics and calculate highly efficient feed and speeds for each of the tools selected in each of the machining steps.
-Prepare programs and create code for turning centers and milling centers and prove out the programs and operate the different controllers on milling and turning centers
