Position Summary:
The primary role of this individual is dedicated to locating families for children in care off the reserve who may have membership to any band in Saskatchewan. This recruitment activity will be undertaken both on and off the reserve. This position is also responsible for the researching, locating and interviewing families as required to determine suitable family resources (preferably extended family or cultural families). The identifying of potential families for extended family care including persons of sufficient interest, foster care or adoption. Consulting with the agency regarding specific families identified for child/sibling group to determine the safety of children in these homes. Consult with the Agency to determine genograms/family trees to determine that all potential extended family are sought. When required; consult with other Family Finders Recruiters or Assessors in the province should a proposed family reside in their area. These individuals shall meet all reporting requirements as prescribed by the Ministry and the Agency.
Qualifications:
Experience with and supporting families.
BSW/BISW would be a definite asset however is not a necessity.
Certificate in Social Work (CSW or CISW) would be a definite asset.
Significant experience in a social services/child protection organization would be an asset.
Knowledge of child development and the impact of abuse and neglect, disability and other special needs including attachment issues as it relates to child welfare services.
Ability to understand family dynamics; conduct genogram/family clan/tribe research.
Possess excellent culturally appropriate interviewing skills.
Excellent verbal and written skills.
Demonstrated ability for critical management in ambiguous or unfavorable situations.
Current Criminal Record Check, Abuse Registry Check and a valid drivers license.
Must sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
Able to work weekends, some evenings and to travel when required.
