Reporting to the Beam Instrumentation Lead in the AOD department, the successful candidate is responsible for supporting accelerator operation and development by designing, implementing and operating beam instrumentation. The Instrumentation Analyst collaborates with the Controls and Instrumentation Department to ensure consistency in and coordination of the software development efforts across department boundaries.
Responsibilities:
- Define and document requirements for instrumentation systems.
- Work collaboratively with the Instrumentation personnel, Accelerator Physicists, Project Leader, contractors, and vendors to design instrumentation systems (hardware and software) or select off-the-shelf components.
- Participate in machine development activities in support of other AOD groups
- Design custom components such as detectors and electronics and provide technical advice on the procurement of off-the-shelf instrumentation.
- Develop software (drivers, applications, GUIs) to integrate beam instrumentation into the EPICS control system. This includes debugging, testing and documentation.
- Participate in the prototyping, installation, testing, and commissioning of new instrumentation for accelerator and diagnostic beamlines.
- Develop budgets for upgrades and enhancements to instrumentation and participate in tender evaluations when required.
- Maintain, operate and support existing beam instrumentation systems.
- Develop quality assurance procedures and manuals for instrumentation systems and their custom-designed components.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree in Physics, Engineering (Electrical, or Software), or Computer Science.
- Previous hands-on experience with instrumentation (development or integration) required.
- Experience in an accelerator instrumentation related domain (diagnostic, detectors, control system) is a strong asset.
- Software development experience, particularly in EPICS, is a strong asset.
