Description

The Addictions Counsellor is responsible for the delivery of the day treatment program for clients from our First Nations communities; and will be an integral member of the Wellness team providing specialized addictions support to clients through an intensive day treatment program. This position will also be responsible for providing counselling, education and prevention activities as required to the communities.  

Qualification and Experience:
* A minimum of a Diploma in Addictions and certified or eligible for certification with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation or the First Nations Wellness/Addictions Counsellor Certification Board  
* A minimum of two (2) year experience working with marginalized populations affected by addictions in a health-related field
* Valid drivers licence and access to a personal motor vehicle for transportation related to Region business
* Knowledge/ability to include traditional land-based programming and work with cultural program
* Incumbent is self-directed and requires minimal supervision.
* Ability to deliver presentations that are well structured, meaningful, and easy to understand.
* Knowledge of the First Nations culture; demonstrated cultural competence.
* Ability to perform health promotion and education activities in the area of mental health, addictions, and its impact on physical, spiritual, and emotional health.
* Knowledge of physical, psychological, and social effects of addictions and mental health
* Knowledge of and ability to apply current practices in the management of risk factors for addictions and mental health
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with clients of varying socio-economic status and targeted populations as well as with professionals
* Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
* Demonstrated basic computer skills including email, Microsoft Word.
