THE POSITION
The Numeracy Specialist is responsible for providing numeracy supports to schools, teachers, students and school-based initiatives which positively impact student achievement. The coordinator will provide services and supports in all areas related to numeracy including planning, instruction, and assessment.
STC is a catalyst for success and we provide 2nd level services to member First Nations to support their education programs and local priorities which may include a focus on land-based learning, response-to-intervention (RTI), STEM/STEAM programming, language retention, reclamation, cultural revitalization, or other cross-curricular initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Participate in system/school wide numeracy assessment as required by conducting the literacy assessments and/or train education staff to administer the assessments.
-Be familiar with Response-to-Intervention frameworks, principles, and processes.
-Attend meetings and on-going professional development provided for numeracy professionals.
-Provide coaching, mentoring to school programs and teachers within the framework established by STC Education and member First Nation Education programs.
-Work in classrooms with teachers and students to support numeracy program development and implementation.
-Contribute to the delivery of professional development and coaching support for school staff and individual teachers.
-Monitor, assess, evaluate and report on numeracy program progress and initiatives with STC Education and member First Nation Education programs.
