Description

The Safety Supervisor develops, co-ordinates, administers and maintains a Safety Management System for all civic employees in compliance with Provincial Legislation and City Policy.  Some duties include:
- Provide subject matter expertise, advice and support in the identification of health and safety risks and provide recommendations and directives to eliminate or mitigate those risks
- Initiate action in response to safety infractions and/or imminent danger situations
- Initiate/recommend corrective action or disciplinary process for safety violations
- Represent the City for Ministry of Labour Relations & Workplace Safety contravention orders and be present for ministerial work site inspections
- Prepare and analyze safety-related statistical reports to determine safety trends
- Identify and assess safety training needs, co-ordinate and/or deliver training
- Provide advice, guidance and act as a resource to multiple Occupational Health Committees and Safety Representatives and assist with worksite and workplace inspections
- Act as the Citys primary contact with the Workers Compensation Board and actively manage all claims including appeals and cost relief requests
- Facilitation of a comprehensive workplace accommodation program for all occupational illness and injuries
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Occupational Health and Safety Practitioners Certificate or demonstrated knowledge relevant to municipal operations
- Valid certification in OH&S courses
- 5 years related work experience
- Class 5 drivers license and personal vehicle
- Extensive knowledge of OH&S legislation
- Computer applications, such as Microsoft Office, Incident Management Software and Safety Data Sheet data base
- Available outside regular work hours as well as working in, but not limited to, environments such as confined spaces, excavations and heights
