The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is for a summer Curatorial Assistant.
This position is funded in part through Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations. Applicants must register through the Young Canada Works website and meet the eligibility requirements.
This position will provide hands-on, practical experience in a mid-size provincial museum. Specifically this role will be handling, cataloguing and organizing artifact acquisitions providing experience in: physical cataloguing, digital cataloguing (database entry), digital recording (photography/scanning), and overall collection management.
Job Duties:
Cataloguing and researching recent artifact acquisitions to the museum;
Digitally photographing/scanning new artifact acquisitions and incorporating them into our artifact database;
Transferring and updating the permanent collection database into a new online version, SaskCollections Database;
Organize and maintain proper museum-quality artifact and archive storage;
Assist in the development and interpretation of artifacts into programming offerings and / or temporary exhibits
Opportunities to gain both back-of-house and front-of-house experience in a museum setting
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Preferred Current Field of Study: Arts Museology; Social Sciences; Humanities
Skills
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong knowledge of museum and/or archival practices
Strong oral and written communication skills
A strong working knowledge of computers
The ability to read, write and speak in English is mandatory
Photography skills would be an asset
Professional and positive attitude
Candidates must be:
Canadian citizens or permanent residents, have refugee status in Canada; legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Security number
between 18 and 30 years of age; and post-secondary students.
