Sweetgrass First Nation is currently accepting applications for a MIDDLE YEARS TEACHER to begin August 2024. Sweetgrass School is a K4 to Grade 8 school, with about 85 students, operated on the Sweetgrass First Nation, located about 35 km west of North Battleford, SK. Responsible to the school Principal, the Classroom Teacher will provide a Grade 6, 7 or 8 learning program that aligns, and supports First Nations ways of knowing, learning and understanding.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Nurture, support and guide the Nations learners
Prepare engaging lessons and interactive learning activities/materials
Conduct formal and informal assessment of students
Incorporate appropriate technology and media in lesson planning
Facilitate learning activities both within the classroom setting and outdoors
Participate in co-curricular school activities
Promote and maintain high standards of behaviour, respect and safety within the classroom
Support families with open, ongoing communication
Prepare course timelines and materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts
Prepare lesson plans with clear objectives that follow SK curriculum standards
Position Qualifications:
Possess a Bachelor of Education or higher qualification
Possess or be in application of a valid SK Teaching Certificate
Successful experience working in a First Nations education setting and appreciation of First Nations ways of knowing, understanding and learning
Understands and uses current educational practices and teaching strategies, including Land Based Learning approaches
Models a strong work ethic as well as high standards of commitment
Upholds school mission, values and sense of community through student-centered decisions
Effectively communicates with staff, parents and students
Maintains professionalism through all school interactions and activities
Values continuous growth and development of school programs and curriculum
