The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture offers extension services and programming for farmers, ranchers, and agri-businesses in the province of Saskatchewan. The Ministry supports the agriculture industry to manage risk and enable a globally competitive and sustainable agriculture and food sector.
As an Agri-Environmental Specialist, you will develop and deliver extension events and provide in-depth knowledge to farmers, ranchers, agri-business, industry stakeholders, and Indigenous communities on best management practices to address agri-environmental issues and the availability of programming by:
-identifying client issues and providing insight to assist in the development of programming that supports the sustainability of client operations and the agricultural sector;
-assisting clients in addressing agri-environmental issues and providing support to solve production-related problems;
-building and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and industry partners, based on mutual trust and respect; and
-effectively interpreting and communicating technical and program information related to agricultural best management practices, research, and available programming to a variety of audiences.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced professional agrologist who has knowledge of current agriculture trends and issues in Saskatchewan and Canada.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture combined with relevant leadership, program delivery, and client service experience. Candidates must have the ability to be registered with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists as defined by The Agrologists Act. A valid class 5 drivers license is required.
