Description

The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) celebrated its Centennial in 2005. The association is member based, and takes its direction from 296 rural municipalities. Known as the independent association that represents rural municipal government in Saskatchewan they are the principal advocate when representing their members before senior governments. SARM has a strong reputation of building diverse and vibrant economic success. SARM strives for continuous improvement and innovation and has assumed the role as the voice of rural Saskatchewan.

The Executive Director is responsible for leading and managing the organization according to the strategic direction set in collaboration with the Board of Directors. The Executive Director plays a key role in the execution of operational excellence and ensures SARM's programs and services meet member expectations. Serving as the Board's advocate, the Executive Director manages the operating budget, oversees risk, and provides strategic direction in regards to human resources. Operational management, program allocation, and succession planning are also key components of the role. The Executive Director serves as the eyes and ears of the Board of Directors for SARM; identifying, assessing and advising on business matters.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate in-depth experience in rural/municipal operations and diplomacy with the proven ability to lead a senior team within a complex organization. A university degree and/or a Rural "A" Certificate are considered assets. The incumbent must have the ability to effectively communicate and lead a team through change. Demonstrated success in achieving policy objectives through effective government relations is a key indicator of future success in this role. The Executive Director will be a proven high performer, an analytical problem solver, solid decision maker and self-starter.
