Workforce Support for Employers

The Employer Services Branch with the Ministry of Immigration and Career Training offers services to employers that can assist with navigating programs designed to address labour and workforce issues. Rapid Response Services:

Canada-Saskatchewan Rapid Response Teams are a partnership between the Labour Market Services Branch (LMS), and the Employer Services Branch (ESB) of the Ministry of Immigration and Career training, and Service Canada. Rapid Response Teams provide support services for businesses and workers affected by production slowdowns or layoffs. Depending on the exact nature of the layoff, information may be provided on the following topics:

  • A description of the Employment Insurance (EI) process for workers;
  • Training plan development for workers to gain skills and boost productivity;
  • Advice about helping workers prepare for career transitions;
  • Employment standards advice; and
  • Access to for posting jobs and/or applying to jobs for free.
Work Sharing Program:

The federal Work Sharing (WS) Program is an adjustment program provided by Service Canada. It is designed to help employers and employees avoid layoffs when there is a temporary reduction in the normal level of business activity that is beyond the control of the employer. The WS program provides income support to employees eligible for Employment Insurance benefits who work a temporarily reduced work week while their employer recovers. Work-Sharing is a three-party agreement involving employers, employees and Service Canada. Employees on a Work-Sharing agreement must agree to a reduced schedule of work and to share the available work over a specified period of time.   1. Ensure each party has the same platform for the on-line interview.
  2. Check your hardware and software requirements, and run a test beforehand.
  3. Understand your connection speed - upload speed is important to ensure good quality audio and video.
  4. Close any unnecessary web browser tabs and applications.
  5. Double check time zone differences, if applicable.
  6. Allow a time buffer for the duration of the interview in the event of technical difficulties.
  7. Prepare your interview space; a quiet, well-lit space with a neutral background is ideal.
  8. Avoid multitasking during the interview, and set your phone to silent.
  9. Ensure phone numbers are readily available in the event the technology fails and the interview needs to be completed by phone.
